Google Spotlight Stories “Back to the Moon”

Directors: Fx Goby and Hélène Leroux
Client: Google Doodles / Spotlight Stories
Animation: Nexus Studios

Co-directed by Fx Goby and Google Doodles’ Hélène Leroux, the Emmy-nominated ‘Back to the Moon’ celebrated the life and artistry of French illusionist and film director Georges Méliès.

The Google Doodle, Google Spotlight Stories, Google Arts & Culture, & Cinémathèque Française teams worked in collaboration for creating this first-ever Virtual Reality (VR) / 360° interactive Doodle. Animation was produced by Nexus Studios, and I was in charge of creating the character rigs. It was a spectacular and challenging project, both for being real-time rigs and for their need of 2d-looking bendy-stretchy deformations. Rigs built and animated in Maya, only skinning joint used!
